Looking for info on Branson House, 1940s is it still there? Any info welcome. My mother in law lived in the house as a child. It is located in Darlington somewhere.

Having lived in Darlington all my life I miss it a great deal when I'm away at university. However this web site helps overcome my home sickness. Thank you and keep up the good work.

I lived in Darlington from 1966 to 1971. Went to South Africa and ended up in New Zealand, never quite made it back. Great to see your page the photo of the Imperial Hotel in Grange Road brought back fond memories of boozy lunches and late nights.

In reply to Steve Robinson - I went to the Grammar between 66-72. Remember teachers such as Froggy Phillips, Hector Parr, Lenny Griffiths? God we could go on all day.

Darlington rocks! I've lived here all 14 years of my life and it's great. I just want to say hi to all my friends at Hummersknott Comprehensive School because it's the best school on the planet!!
Cliff Hayes
My grandfather, William Hayes, was born in Darlington 1878 on Elton Parade. He had five brothers and one sister but I've had no luck in finding any of them. Are there any Hayes' in Darlington who may be related?
Graham Oliver
Hi! I live in Darlington and I am also a DJ at Wesley's Alcohol Free Venue which is, suprise suprise, also in Darlington. Wesley's is open for young people on Wednesday and Saturday nights for 11 to 14 year olds and hosts a bar, pool tables and a disco.
Danny Marden
I must say that Darlo is great. I am a student in Newcastle and just love the huge selection of pubs. Me and my mates often go on massive pub crawls in the town. My favourite being the Bank Top Grey Horse run by John and Marion.
Betty Katai
Hope some of my old mates see this. I never thought I would miss Darlington so much but I do. Just reading the comments made me homesick. I went to Eastbourne Secondary, roller skated at the South Park and worked at Cummins.

I lived in Darlington till I was 16 in 1980 and then moved to Canada. It's great seeing pictures of the town again. Are the ABC and Odeon cinemas still standing. I miss the savories at the market as well. Looking for old freinds: Phil Beagle, Ian Bale, Paul and Barry Simpson and Phil Trigwell.
Note from Editor
ABC was Canon cinema last time I looked, Odeon is a snooker club.

Born in Darlington 1963. Left in 1974 after some of the best years of my life at Alderman Leach Junior School. Since then have lived in Surrey, London, New Jersey, Baltimore, Austin (Texas) and now Houston (Texas). Still have family up there and get back when I can. Would like to see some photos of Cockerton and of the River Tees.

Tap's closing! What a shame...such a splendid pub. I'll certainly miss it. It's given me so many happy hours thank's to the regulars and the charm of the pub itself. Living in Norway it's sad to know that by the next time I get there my pub will be closed.... now where shall I have my Newcastle Brown? My love to Vince Pablo John Beeve Martin and, of course, Tove and Cecilie, the Norwegians... and to all the others. Cheers!

I lived in Darlington for a number of years and loved every bit of it. People up there were so friendly. Miss the cheap beer now I'm living down in sunny Newquay. I'll be back.
Colin Hepper
Further to my earlier comments I left Darlington in 1970 and then left UK in 1987 For New Zealand. Still miss Darlington and the friendly people. Maybe there are some people out there who could keep me updated. I went to Haughton Secondary modern school. Lived at Harrowgate Hill and yes, I remember the reservoir. I worked at Sherwoods heavy commmercial garage at Hurworth then left Darlington and joined the Police Force in Essex. I'm Married and now live in Whangaparaoa, Auckland NZ. Best wishes.
Ap Harri
I agree with D Marden as the Bank Top Grey Horse is the best Pub in the area. My other favourite is the White Horse at Harrowgate Village. Does anybody remember that Dave Hannay or somebody like that? He used to drink in the Foresters Arms in Coatham Mundeville.
Dave Mawer
Born and bred in Darlington, went to Hummersknott, probably the best school in Darlington, now living down south in lovely Dorset.

Norman Marsh
A warm hello to all those who remember Norman Marsh from schooldays in the 50's and 60's. I'm living in Dorset now - although working in the Middle East quite often. Hope someone spots this and drops a line. Good memories of you all.

My grandfather, George Holland Fox a.k.a. Old Pa Fox was organist at Holy Trinity Church before WW2. Does anyone remember him? My father, (George's youngest son) went to Darlington Grammar School in 1911/12. Is there anyone out there who remembers him?
Helge Leslie Nilsen
I just want to say HELLO to my many relatives in Darlington. Missing you all. Wishing you all the very best from here in Norway.
Ian Atkinson
My late mother, Annie Atkinson, was friends with Lucy Beatrice Hunter, who lived in Bates Avenue, Darlington, at the end of the war, 1945/46. I have just found some correspondence and photos of theirs, and would like to make contact with Mrs Hunter or any remaining relatives of hers.
Sarah
Hi! I was brought up in Darlington but moved away in 1990. I now live in Chester-le-Street. All of my family live in Darlington and in the Darlington area (Aycliffe). I spend a lot of my time in Darlington and they are the best people ever. I strongly recommend visiting here. It is a fab place. Chio! Sarah.

Does anybody know if there is a website/photos on the old Beaumont Street Primary/Junior School, Beaumont Street, Darlington - it was knocked down years ago. I was there between about 59 to 65.
Simon Dalton
With regard to comment from Dave Mawer - I remember you from school. Did we used to call you Dubber?
Shirley Blenkey
Great to discover a Darlington web site. I lived in Darlington and went to Carmel. Have great memories of the school and all my friends. I moved away to the US, Japan and now live in Java in Indonesia. If anyone remembers me please get in touch. Miss everyone from time to time.
Mike Mayos
Was born in Cattrick camp 1941, but lived in Hurworth and Darlington until 1967. Left for South Africa and returned in 1977 until 1980. Now back in Johannesburg. Would appreciate any contact from old school friends out there. Was fantastic to see photos of Darlington and surrounds. Is there any body still having a pint at the Bay horse in Hurworth?
Jan Scott (nee Janet Tennick)
I went to the High School from 1962-68 and worked at Mowden Hall from 1970-1974. I have completely lost touch with my father's family. He was Arthur Tennick and died in 1955. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me - I'm now living in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire and working as Projects Manager for a theatre and music company. I visited Darlington over August Bank Holiday weekend with my band - Cragg Vale Gamelan. We played in the Church Yard on Sunday and in South Park on Monday. Best wishes.
Linda Dawson
I have lived in Darlington for most of my life but have also lived in Munster, Germany and Blackpool, UK whilst my husband Gary aka Les - 785 was in the 1st. Light Infantry. Whilst Germany was clean and the locals friendly and Blackpool had variety, Darlington is HOME. If Lynn Alderson, Connie Dawson or others from 1st or 3rd LI are viewing, please contact me.
